Anti-Nuclear-Blockade Heads Off for 365 Days – Photo Documentation

Photography by Peter Steudtner
August 2011 365 days of continuous nonviolent resistance against the planned nuclear waste disposal site in Gorleben started with nearly 300 people despite torrential rains. The initiative aims at stopping all exploration drilling for a final nuclear waste disposal at the former salt mines in Gorleben as well as shutting down of all nuclear power plants. Every day a new group will blockade creatively with birthday parties, choir concerts or formal board meetings the gates of the drilling site.
Scientific research proofs, that the former salt mines in Gorleben are not at all suitable as storage for nuclear waste. The locally based resistance exists for more than 30 years and already prevented the government from constructing a nuclear power plant and a nuclear refurbishing site, which both were originally planned at this site.
